Training and Development at Every Stage
Staff development is a priority for us and, where possible, we try and support our clinicians in their academic research or professional qualifications.
We are fortunate that our staff come from a wide range of training backgrounds and specialisms and so, where it will benefit our patients and their careers, we will do our best to support them.
Many of our clinicians, particularly GP Partners, are involved in their own academic research and, as a business, we know that lifelong learning is a key to growth and innovation.
Primary Care Skills Academy
To facilitate career development we have developed the Primary Care Skills Academy, an online platform, designed to help our managers identify and source the best training for their teams, and for individuals to complete skills assessments to document both their strengths and pinpoint areas for development. The platform also allows clinicians to keep all their professional revalidation data in one place, making it easier to access.
To find out more about the platform and its benefits please visit the Primary Care Skills Academy website.
Supporting Medical Students
Our colleagues support and encourage each other, sharing knowledge where appropriate and they are happy to pass their skills on to the next generation of practitioners.
All of our Lakeside Healthcare practices are accredited medical training practices where we assist in the training of medical students. Many enjoy their time at our practices so much they look forward to returning for future placements, or even to start their careers with us.
We work with the Universities of Cambridge, Leicester and Lincoln to ensure that the students get the very best and most appropriate learning experiences while at our practices. Depending on the stage of their career and experience, this will include supervised contact with patients.
We are lucky to have many very experienced and encouraging GP trainers who see it as a privilege to mentor our students. Many of them have received ‘GP Trainer of the Year’ awards, or similar accolades for the dedication and care that they show to the students.
Feedback From Students Include
‘The teaching and duty clinics that we were scheduled for were a great experience, and I thoroughly enjoyed these placements due to the excellent and varied case mix that the doctors selected for us. Their teaching and supervision was excellent and they were really friendly GPs as well!’
‘Absolutely excellent all-round. All the people who worked at the practice, from admin to the GPs, HCAs, etc were all supremely helpful. Tutorials were very helpful in developing our clinical reasoning. All the debriefs with the GPs after seeing patients also helped expand my knowledge of common problems presenting to primary care. Genuinely an amazing placement!’
‘Our GP supervisor is genuinely such a lovely and caring person, an excellent supervisor and always finds us educational cases to see, really cares about our education and learning, as well as doing whatever she can to make our experience here as good as possible.’
‘Everyone was lovely and really helpful including doctor, nurses and HCAs. The teaching was extremely good.’
‘It's been one of the best placements of medical school so far, and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of GP supervisors, and I'm sad to be leaving.’
