Welcome to Dr Jill Hamilton
We are pleased to welcome Dr Jill Hamilton, who has joined The Stamford Surgery as a GP Partner.
Dr Hamilton is an experienced GP Partner with a passion for community focused clinical work, with a particular interest in the care of older patients. Alongside her clinical work, she is currently studying for a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA), which she hopes she will be able to use to add to the future development of the practice.
Dr Hamilton wanted to join The Stamford Surgery as she was keen to be part of a forward-thinking partnership and to have a voice in shaping the practice as it continues to develop.
Her route into medicine was slightly different from the traditional path. Dr Hamilton’s first degree was in physiology and pharmacology, after which she worked with the organ donor care team at Papworth Hospital. She found this work extremely rewarding and it inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She later gained a place on Cambridge University’s graduate entry medical programme. Dr Hamilton initially trained as an anaesthetist, but then decided to switch to a career in general practice in 2014.
Dr Hamilton was also attracted by the size and scope of The Stamford Surgery, as well as its welcoming and professional culture. Having trained alongside some of the doctors who work here, she wanted to bring her skills in to a team that she felt was trying to drive positive change, and contribute to the progress that the surgery has made.

In her previous role, she worked closely with care homes and wants to continue this important work at Stamford Surgery. She values good communication with patients, families and care staff, and believes that well-coordinated care can make a real difference to people’s lives.
Since joining the practice, Dr Hamilton has enjoyed a positive induction and is now running her own clinics. She is looking forward to getting to know her patients and continuing to develop her skills as part of the Stamford Surgery team.
