Nurse Val returns to Lakeside Corby

Nurse practitioner Val Bedwell has recently rejoined our team at Corby after stints working in the mental health field and prison service. Since leaving around four years ago she completed her prescribing qualification and is keen to use the knowledge she developed in the interim to help Lakeside patients.

'I want to help nurses recognise when a symptom isn't necessarily related to mental health but because patients were unwell for another reason, so it is about looking after people holistically. I have now been back for a couple of months and am really enjoying it.

'My prescribing course was really interesting and took about six months to complete. It is the hardest course you will ever do, but really rewarding as it allows you to help patients without them having to see a GP, although there is always back up from colleagues if you need it

'I do like to learn and, as one of my main interests is in women's health, I would like to develop my knowledge and maybe learn to fit coils and implants. Rejoining Lakeside has definitely been the right move for me and I am enjoying being part of the team here again.'
